After five days of intensive Potty Training, its become clear that Bella isn’t ready to ditch her nappies just yet. She has done really well and gone along with it, but she only wee’s at timed intervals, she doesn’t do it on her own, instead she will just pee wherever she’s standing (or squatting) and she doesn’t seem to care.
After a chat with a Health Visitor my doubts were confirmed and they recommended that we leave Potty Training until Bella starts showing signs. I did feel guilty at first and felt like I had failed and that I was letting Bella down by not sticking it out for longer, but at the end of the day, it’s not a race or a competition, just simply a case of Bella not being ready at this time.
The positives I’m taking from this experience is that it will probably give Bella a head start when she is ready, because she knows the potty drill now and knows what’s expected of her.
Bella, Flo & I haven’t seen daylight or socialised for five days, so it was refreshing to have a play date at ours today. Bella’s friend Emily came to play! There were a few issues with sharing & the occasional Drama Queen Tantrum (Today the Teletubbie figurines were the hot toy, that they both couldn’t live without), so we had to referee most of the time, but apart from that, the girls had fun.
The fancy dress box got raided (how cute do they look?!) and even Flo got in on the act. They both kept sitting on the potty together too, which was really sweet.
After Bella’s nap, I didn’t mention the potty again and I left her nappy on and she didn’t even notice! I noticed that she seemed a little happier that she was free to run around, without being restricted to one room because of the potty training!
Bella’s Tuff Spot tray arrived today and it’s bloody enormous! Think I’m going to need some more water beads! I want to encourage more messy play so I’ll start posting ideas soon!
