Ever since we visited NASA back in January, Bella has been asking so many questions about space. I thought it would be fun to plan a Space themed day full of space activities, facts and crafts. This morning the girls put on their space suits, I set up a space themed reading zone, with the help of Bella’s Bloomsbury Mill Space Bedding, “Alien Bear” and space balloons and our space adventure began.
Facts
We brought Bella a child’s Encyclopaedia for Christmas and I must admit, we haven’t actually read it much. We headed straight to the Space section and the girls listened intently as I read out the facts. Bella could already name and point out a few planets, which really impressed me. The girls sat for a while, looking at the pictures together.
Flash cards
I brought these Space themed Flash cards from Little Boo Learning https://www.littleboolearning.com last summer and we still get them out from time to time. Bella’s favourite planet is Pluto because it reminds her of a mint chocolate Aero bubble (I wonder where she gets that from). These flash cards make a great visual aid and it will definitely help your children to remember the name of the planets.
Games
We had some space themed balloons stashed in the party box, so I blew them up and we pretended that they were planets. The aim of the game was to keep the balloons up in the air and stop them from crashing down into earth. The girls loved it, there was a lot of girly screaming going on whilst they desperately tried to keep the balloons up in the air.
These Melissa & Doug Monster Bowling set turned into Aliens who needed to be knocked down to stop them taking over the girls space ship. Flo took this very seriously and even wrestled one with her teeth! She was not letting her space ship go down without a fight.
Treats
We had a pit stop from the space and the girls enjoyed a space dust hot chocolate with moon biscuits. Unfortunately I wasn’t organised enough to get marshmallows! The girls really enjoyed it and Flo ended up wearing most of hers, so after a quick outfit change we got ready for the space themed craft.
Crafts
I’m totally loving Baker Ross at the minute, their craft kits and brilliant! This Wooden Rocket craft kit went down well with the girls and as you can see they did a great job! They both really enjoyed putting their own creative stamp on their rockets and they couldn’t wait to fly them around the house when they had finished decorating them.
