The girls had so much fun exploring their Treasure Sensory Basket. I made it mainly for Flo but Bella really enjoyed it to. A Treasure Sensory Basket is based on the Montessori method of learning through play and it can include different shapes, textures and problem solving.
I discovered an amazing, small business called Carla’s Treasure and she puts together lovely sensory kits, perfect for Treasure Sensory Baskets. There are lots of different themes and sized kits to choose from and they are reasonably priced. I brought the kit pictured above and it came in a sturdy, drawn string bag which is so handy for storage and for taking your little one’s Treasure on the go.
These kits are a great starting point because you can keep adding more Treasure as you go. I picked up some Giraffe themed fabric from Hobby Craft and cut that up into squares and I also brought some coloured sensory scarves from Amazon. I brought my basket on Amazon but Carla’s Treasure also provides kits with a basket.
A Treasure Sensory Kit is such a great way to encourage siblings to play together. The girls loved exploring together and they were brushing each other’s hair, Bella ‘face painted’ Flo with the paintbrush and turned her into a Giraffe (apparently), she also tickled Flo with the feather. There were big smiles all round!
I stuffed the sensory scarves into an empty tissue box so that they could pull them out by themselves and they loved it! They played peekaboo, made it rain and Bella was doing a bit of fashion design by turning the scarves into crop tops! We are off to Cornwall in June so I’m definitely going to get another kit from Carla’s Treasure, as a back up activity on a rainy day or to encourage down time before bedtime.
I fear that this Treasure Sensory Basket idea is going to be quite addictive. I’m already on the hunt for new bits to add to their basket. It’s just so lovely to see the girls play and have so much fun together!
