We were up and out before 9am this morning-go us! After hearing great things, we decided to check out Holywell Bay. It’s only 30 minutes away from Retallack Resort & Spa and it’s well worth a visit.

Be warned it’s a bit of a trek from the car park down to the beach. There are a few sand dunes to climb, so we definitely earned our burgers at lunch time. If you’re a National Trust member you get to park for free, otherwise it’s £4.50 for four hours or £6 for the whole day, so make sure you take some change.

The beach is beautiful! Once again we were met with clear, turquoise water and the beach was immaculate! It’s definitely a good idea to take beach shoes for the kids as there are lots of little stones and shells amongst the sand. We brought the girl’s beach shoes for just £7 from Boots.

There isn’t a cafe on the beach but there is a small shop near the car park that sells refreshments and coffees. Make sure you pick up your refreshments before you walk down to the beach. It’s hard work trekking up and down those sand dunes. Eva & I thought we were being clever by offering to do the refreshment run (we thought it would give us a break from the kids) but we weren’t so smug, when we were dragging ourselves up mountains of sand.

The girls had fun building sandcastles but more fun trashing them, they loved running down to the sea and they also took it in turns to fly Elsie’s Kite. After a couple of hours, we decided to pack up and head to St Pirans Inn (a pub a few yards from the car park) for some lunch. The pub was child friendly and had plenty of space for prams. The food was also really lovely.

I would definitely recommend that you check out Holywell Bay. It’s a great beach for kids and it’s also dog friendly too. The wind does get up so make sure you pack a windbreak. The kids should be well and truly pooped tonight so here’s hoping for a peaceful night!
