Have you ever had one of those parent moments when you wished you could just hit rewind, take a deep breath, reset and do things differently? I had one of those moments a couple of days ago. Flo had been particularly difficult all day and the girls were both playing nicely in the bath, when as soon as I stepped out of the bathroom, all hell broke loose. They were screaming, crying, launching My Little Ponies at each other’s heads and Flo stepped it up a gear by firmly grabbing a handful of Bella’s hair.

Flo was swiftly removed from the bath, which of course caused meltdown number 2, quickly followed by complete defiance. She dived straight onto my bed whilst soaking wet, refused to get off the bed, she did not want to put her nappy on and there was no way in hell she was going to get dressed. I calmly gave her three chances to redeem herself, but she just laughed in my face and that’s when this Mama lost it and threw a Mum paddy. I grabbed her precious Duck Duck (her JoJo Mama Bebe Duck Comforter that she has had since she was born) and I lobbed it out of my bedroom window.

Gasp! I know, not my finest hour to say the least, but I felt very frustrated and she was so out of control that I needed to do something rash to get her attention and to snap her out of her f-you party. Once she got over the shock of witnessing Duck Duck being launched out of the window, she calmly laid down whilst I put her nappy on and got her dressed. I retrieved Duck Duck from the garden and she forfeit stories because she hurt Bella and she didn’t listen to Mummy. I then had to battle with her to brush her teeth, whilst she kept clamping down on the toothbrush and giggling, because deliberately trying to push Mummy over the edge is her favourite past time.

When I first started my blog I promised to share the good, bad and damn right hard experiences of motherhood, so I wanted to share my moment of weakness with you and to remind you (and myself) to give yourself a break. These small humans love to test boundaries and if you get frustrated, shout, throw a toy out of the window, it’s ok, you are only human and there is only so much crap you can take! It doesn’t make you a bad parent, so take a deep breathe, pull up your big girl pants, get your game face back on and show your mini me who’s boss. We’ve got this!
