I’ve been feeling guilty recently that I haven’t really gone down the sensory route with Flo. Seeing as we are having a day at home today, I decided that there’s no time like the present and I’ve had a go at making Edible Play Doh. It certainly doesn’t look as smooth and perfect as the pictures on Pinterest (my version looks like a small brain-mmmm tasty), but it’s the thought that counts right?!

Bella had my undivided attention when she was a baby so I was always coming up with new ways to stimulate her. Now that Bella is at Pre-School three days a week, its going to give Flo and I more one to one time. So I’ve vowed to get my thinking cap on with new ways to entertain her. I’m currently working on a Treasure Sensory Basket, so watch this space.

I found this Edible Play Doh recipe on a site called Fun at Home With The Kids. It promised to be an easy non cook recipe and it totally would of been if I had cups for measuring! So in my usual true Bridget Jones style, I winged it and had a rough guess at measurements, hence the final outcome, but it certainly did the job!

Edible Play Doh Recipe:
- 1 cup of Baby Rice Cereal (I measured 120gm)
- 1 cup of cornflour
- 1/2 cup of unsweetened Apple Sauce (you an use water as a substitute. I used both.
- 3 TBS of vegetable oil
- Food colouring is optional
Method
- Mix the Baby Rice Cereal and Cornflour together in a mixing bowl
- Add the Apple Sauce or water and Vegetable Oil and any good colouring and mix well.
- Kneading by hand helped it all stick together. The dough needs to be mixed or kneaded until it’s smooth and pliable.
- If it gets sticky slowly add some more Baby Rice Cereal and make sure it’s completely mixed in before adding more.
- If the dough is dry and cracking, run your hands under some water and keep mixing.
- I used a clean pair of rubber gloves to make the play doh to avoid dying my hands bright pink.
- I let the dough sit for an hour to let the food colouring dry.

I think it’s safe to say that the girls really enjoyed themselves. The fun lasted a full ten minutes until they both go bored. This Edible Play Doh lasts a couple of days if you keep it in the fridge, so Flo will be getting stuck in again tomorrow! It was lovely for them to do an activity they can both enjoy together.
