Flo is definitely a mini foodie in the making. She’s been weaning a month now and the only thing she doesn’t like is banana (it makes her cry-a bit dramatic). She’s been having finger foods for the past couple of weeks and she’s loving life because of it!

I remember how daunting it can be when you first introduce finger foods to your baby! Don’t worry it does get less stressful. I thought I’d list Flo’s favourite 8 finger foods, to help give any inspiration, to parents who are on the weaning journey for the first time.

Cucumber

Cucumber is one of Flo’s favourites! It’s easy to hold, soft in the middle so it’s easy for her to chew and it helps with teething and soothes sore gums.

Rice cakes

A must-have in any baby snack bag! They are a god send and help with those hangry moments (the baby’s, not yours). The recommended age is 7 months, but I felt that Flo was ready for them sooner and she had them at 6 months. I always buy the Boots own organic brand.

Raspberries

This was a slow burner! Flo wasn’t too keen at first but she has definitely come around and now would eat a whole bowl if I let her! It helps that Raspberries are one of her big Sister’s favourite fruit!

Melon

Flo is obsessed with Melon! She’s like Noo-Noo out of the Teletubbies! It’s a little tricky for her to hold, so she normally drops it a lot and then has a hissy fit when she can’t pick it up again. Practice makes perfect.

Tenderstem Brocolli

This is a surprising one as Bella really hated Brocolli as a baby. She literally used to shudder & cry whenever I tried to feed it to her. Flo loves Broccoli! I think it helps that it’s quite easy to pick up and she can shove it in her mouth quicker.

Toast Soldiers

Flo is also obsessed with Toast! She literally can’t get enough in her mouth! I have to watch her like a hawk sometimes, because she’ll bite off more than she can chew and then I have to fish it out.

Ella’s Kitchen Melty Puffs

Flo adores Ella’s Kitchen Melty Puffs! She loves Leek & Tomato, Carrot & Strawberry flavour. These are another must-have for your baby snack bag, but be warned they are super messy.

Breadsticks

I only discovered today that Flo loves Breadsticks. They are easy to hold and great for teething babies to gnaw on. You can buy packs of mini breadsticks which are another must-have in your baby snack bag.

And just for a giggle

Flo’s reaction to eating Banana! I love the last picture! I hope I’ve helped to give inspiration for those first stages of finger foods. As Flo approaches 7 months, I’ll start making bits from my Ella’s Kitchen The First Foods Book. I’ll share my favourite recipes as I go along.
