The Dummy Fairy door went up on Sunday night so we were bracing ourselves for Bella’s reaction on Monday morning. She was all smiles and was totally wrapped up in the magic of it all. She proudly wore her “I’ve had a visit from the Dummy Fairy’ badge but she had a firm grip on the three ‘mimi’s’ she found stashed in her room.

From the beginning we agreed to let Bella be in control of when she wanted to give her ‘Mimi’ up for good. I found a box and I put it next to the door and I told Bella that each day before bed, I’ll ask her if she’s ready to collect all her Mimi’s and put them into the box, ready for the Dummy Fairy to collect. Yesterday afternoon before we started the bath/bedtime routine, I asked her “Bella, are you ready to give your Mimi’s to the Dummy Fairy tonight” and she replied “yes”, I was flabbergasted!

She ran excitedly to the Fairy door, grabbed the box and we set about collecting all her Mimi’s that were stashed around the house. I asked her again “Bella are you sure you want to give up your Mimi for good? Once the Dummy Fairy takes them, that will be it! No more Mimi ever again” and she replied “Mummy, I’m not going to change my mind”, so she grabbed the Fairy dust and we headed for the garden.

She had one last suck of her Mimi, sprinkled over the pink fairy dust, making sure she covered each dummy equally, we said goodbye to the dummies and then headed back upstairs to put them by the Fairy Door. Once we headed back downstairs, I sneaked back up, hid the box of dummies and placed her certificate and reward cards by the door, ready for her to find later. So far she was handling it like a pro.

Bedtime came around and she seemed ok at first but then reality set in and she started to get upset. So I went in a few times, gave her cuddles, told her stories to distract her but she kept saying “please Mummy, please can I have just one Mimi” but I stuck to my guns and she finally fell asleep at 9pm.

Unfortunately I came down with a sickness bug during this whole scenario and had to keep disappearing out of her room to be sick, whilst trying to comfort her. Thankfully Daddy came home to the rescue and took over so that I could go to bed. Flo’s also cutting her two bottom teeth so she woke up every hour last night and didn’t settle until 2.30am-typical!

Bella did really well and she slept through until 5.45am but then she started crying and screaming for her ‘Mimi’. My Hubby slept downstairs to avoid catching this crappy bug, so I quickly ushered her into my room and put Tiny Treasures on my phone to distract her (is anyone else’s kids obsessed with that YouTube channel?), we stayed like this until 7am.

Before we headed downstairs, I got her dressed quickly, threw on her wellies and coat and she followed Daddy outside for the big reveal! She was over the moon with her slide and called to Flo “Flo look at my amazing slide”. After sliding down a couple of times, she sat at the bottom, looked us both in the eye and asked “Where’s the swing”.
