We survived the first day of potty training! This ‘Big Girl’ has been an absolute superstar! I’m feeling stress-free & relatively relaxed-I’m hoping it’s not the calm before the storm! I was quite anxious about Potty Training Bella because I wasn’t truly sure how ready she actually was!

Bella has been brilliant and she has really surprised me! Today she has done three wee’s in the potty, one was prompted by her (she actually got out of the bath to sit on the potty-this is kind of a big deal as recently her new hobby is crapping in the bath) and she had three accidents.

We officially started after breakfast. Bella chose to wear her pink, Minion pants and once she had finished wearing them as a hat, we put them on and the training begun! The top pic is her expression when she first put them on! I think it’s safe to say she was excited about the concept of being a ‘big girl’ and not wearing nappies.

Following Gina Ford’s advice, I set a timer on my phone for 15 minutes and when the alarm went off I stuck Bella on the potty. This worked really well as I’m not entirely sure she can tell beforehand when she’s going to pee.

What amazed me was the length of time she was able to sit on the potty for! She sat for 20-25 mins each time and rarely made a fuss! I kept her entertained with books, iPad and Frozen! And there was the occasional bribe with ‘Daddy’s crisps’.

She even put on a puppet show for Flo (which she thought was the BEST thing EVER). Because she was being such a good girl, we gave her a couple of chocolate buttons for every 5 stars she got. Bella is all about incentive, so this helped when she felt less inclined to sit a little longer.

Overall she’s done brilliantly and her potty chart was full of stars! I would definitely recommend setting an alarm every 15 minutes. I think this technique helped Bella tremendously and I would also recommend a Potty Chart!

Let’s see if tomorrow is all rosy! She is yet to do a poo on the potty and she hasn’t been for two days! I’m not looking forward to that beast. TMI!
