As I mentioned before, I really want to have some more ‘baking & cooking’ fun with Bella. So I checked out my good, old trustee, app Pinterest for some Easter inspired recipes. And I thought I’d share them with you all!

Easter Fruit Kabobs

Loved this idea! Especially the fruit bunny at the top. It makes a change from the normal, less than healthy, Easter treats. To make this you’ll need:

  • Strawberries
  • Oranges
  • Grapes
  • Honeydew melon
  • Banana

You can use pineapple or cantaloupe for the bunny shape and you’ll obviously need a wooden skewer to make your kabobs.

Rice Krispies Easter Eggs

This is such a simple recipe and really easy for toddlers to get stuck in and help too! The bright colours are really fun! Ok so it’s not healthy at all! But it won’t hurt as a one off! If you want to give these a try, here is the recipe:

  • 6 tbs butter
  • 6 cups of mini marshmallows & add these to the melted butter
  • Stir until completely melted and add 4 drops of chosen food colouring
  • Add 6 cups of Rice Krispies to mixture & fold in until the cereal is completely covered.
  • Mould into your Easter egg shape and then place on a baking tray and leave for 15 minutes to allow to set.

Apple Slice Easter Treat

Not as simple for your little one to do alone but with your help, your toddler can most definitely get involved. Another healthy, alternative snack.

Ingredients

  • 2 apples
  • Water
  • Lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp cream cheese
  • 2 tbsp peanut butter
  • 6 teaspoons powdered freeze-dried fruit

Instructions

  • Use an Apple corer to remove the cores out of the centre of the apples.
  • Slice the apples crossways into 1/2 cm thick slices (they should look like doughnuts)
  • Using an egg-shaped cookie cutter, cut egg shapes from rings
  • From the off cuts, cut disks using the Apple corer (these disks will later be used to fill the holes in the egg, so need to be similar thickness to the slices)
  • Fill a bowl with cold water and squeeze lemon juice, soak the slices and disks for a few minutes whilst you get the other ingredients ready
  • Measure out the quantities of dried, powdered fruit in small bowls (avoid kids sticky fingers delving into the bag)
  • Drain the soaked Apple and pat dry with tea towel or paper towel
  • Pop Apple disks into the holes of the slices
  • Spread the slices with peanut butter or cream cheese
  • Use the freeze dried fruit powders to sprinkle on the ‘egg’ for decoration.

Chocolate Smothered Fairy Wands

I thought I’d balance the healthy & non healthy recipes out with one last naughty treat! It’s pretty self explanatory.

You could either melt chocolate and smother it over a breadstick or use chocolate spread. Use sprinkles for decorations and a chocolate star to finish.

This idea would be dead easy for your toddler to do. It just depends on whether you dare to give your child a sugar overload! I suppose you could make savoury wands and use cream cheese and grated carrots , peppers and courgettes as sprinkles and a cucumber star to finish!

I hope this has given you some inspiration. Let’s hope Bella’s next lot of baking looks better than this:

She made & decorated Peppa Pig cakes today! As you can see they look *ahem* delicious!
